9th Angad Hundal Memorial Award (2024)

Angad Hundal Society is happy to announce Cirrus Ball from Parkview Education Center, Bridgewater, as the winner of 9th Angad Hundal Memorial Award!

Cirrus Ball graduated from high school with distinction and gained early acceptance into Dalhousie's Applied Computer Science program. He was raised in both rural and urban settings and travelled to many countries with his parents.

As a result of his education from many schools with strikingly different environments which included an all-French Acadian school, a small Montessori school, and a much larger English language high school he learned to value constructive communication and turned into a well rounded young man.

He has always had a keen interest in social justice and advocacy. Along with volunteering with rescued animals, he also worked with special needs kids, which he found rewarding. He makes a conscious effort to contribute to his community.

Cirrus is looking forward to harness the positive impacts of computer science to bring meaningful changes to society.

Congratulations Cirrus! We hope that you will continue to be a role model.

8th Angad Hundal Memorial Award (2023)

Angad Hundal Society is happy to announce Keira Grady from Dartmouth High, Dartmouth as the winner of 8th Angad Hundal Memorial Award!

Keira Grady is an African Nova Scotian, French Immersion, AP student who recently graduated from Dartmouth High School. Her kindness is a beacon that guides her actions. From lending a listing ear to a friend in need, to offering a helping hand to strangers, Keira’s gestures of goodwill paint the canvas of her life. Keira’s commitment to kindness extends beyond words. She actively seeks opportunities to volunteer and participate in numerous sporting teams that have always had a connection to giving back, within in her surrounding community. Through her actions, she reminds us that a single act of kindness can spark a chain reaction of positivity. She has been accepted to Acadia University to pursue a BSc in Environmental Geoscience in the fall. Keira enjoys being a continuous leaner and is very much looking forward to experiencing university life and immersing herself in the campus lifestyle and embracing this exciting new chapter in her life.

Name: Megumi Ozawa
School: Pugwash District High, Pugwash

7th Angad Hundal Memorial Award (2022)

Angad Hundal Society is happy to announce Megumi Ozawa from Pugwash District High School, Pugwash, NS as the winner of 7th Angad Hundal Memorial Award!

Megumi grew up in Wentworth, Nova Scotia, where she lives with her parents and an elder brother. She is deeply involved in community as her passion lies in helping others. She volunteered at Wentworth Learning Centre, created a free girls empowerment camp in her community, offers free tutoring in summers, volunteers at day camps for youth with differing abilities, along with playing soccer, badminton, tracking, skiing, and snowboarding!

She is kind and excitingly waiting to start the next chapter in her life at the University of New Brunswick, where she is taking Bachelor of Science in Psychology.

We congratulate her on winning the scholarship and hope that she will continue to be a role model for others.

Name: Scotia Broome
School: Horton High, Wolfville

6th Angad Hundal Memorial Award (2021)

Angad Hundal Society is happy to announce Scotia Broome from Horton High School Wolfville as the winner of 6th Angad Hundal Memorial Award!

Scotia grew up in Western Australia, loves the ocean and dreams to become a marine biologist. Along with focusing on her studies she is working at a local cafe and play multiple sports including swimming, snowboarding, floorball, hockey, and cross country running. She volunteers with local floorball club by helping in organizing practices, games, and tournaments. She has also been involved with the BIG Swim three times; a marathon swimming event that fundraises money for Brigadoon village. She is thankful for this scholarship that will help fulfil her dream, of becoming a marine biologist!

Name: Lauren Wamboldt
School: Cole Harbour District High, Dartmouth

5th Angad Hundal Memorial Award (2020)

Angad Hundal Society is happy to announce Lauren Wamboldt of Cole Harbour District High School, Dartmouth, as the winner of the 5th Angad Hundal Memorial Award. Like previous years, scholarship received 110 applications from all over Nova Scotia which were assessed on the parameters set.

Lauren lives in Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, with her parents and younger siblings, a brother and a sister. She came highly recommended by all three referees who described her helpfulness, worth ethics, honesty, hard work, commitment, dedication, problem-solving and caring nature. She is not afraid of speaking her mind when needed!

Lauren graduated with an International Baccalaureate diploma from Cole Harbour High this year and will be attending Queen’s University in Kingston, ON. She is one of 10 Canadian students who has been accepted to the Qu ARMS program (Queen’s University Accelerated Route to Medical School) which allows an application to Queen's medical school after two years of undergraduate study. She is very excited to start at Queen’s, though the first year will be remote learning due to COVID. While studying from home, she will continue to volunteer in her community and work as a lifeguard. Ultimately, she would like to be a doctor and work with children.

We congratulate her on winning the scholarship with the hope that she will continue to be a role model for others.

School: North Nova Education Center

4th Angad Hundal Memorial Award (2019)

Angad Hundal Society is pleased to announce Charlie MacLean of North Nova Education Center, New Glasgow, as the winner of 4th Angad Hundal Memorial Award.

Scholarship received 125 applications in the fourth year that were assessed on the parameters set. Charlie lives in Pine Tree, Nova Scotia along with his parents and was in the short list of both Angad Hundal Memorial and Emerge scholarships. He faced fair share of challenges in his young life and used his struggles to learn and become the kind, gentle and positive person he is today.

Charlie wants to study Business administration and have joined NSCC Pictou campus starting this fall. We congratulate him for winning the 4th Angad Hundal Memorial Award.

School: Dartmouth High School, Dartmouth, NS

3rd Angad Hundal Memorial Award (2018)

Angad Hundal Society is pleased to announce Holland Van Dijk of Dartmouth High School, Dartmouth, NS as winner of 2018 Angad Hundal Memorial Award.

Like previous years, this year too scholarship received 150 applications, which were assessed individually, and collectively on the parameters set. Though all applications were competitive, Holland’s stood out for her deep intellectual understanding, caring attitude, discipline, helpfulness and leadership. She consistently displays all qualities needed to be person who can inspire positive change in her surroundings.

Holland Van Dijk lives in Dartmouth, NS with her parents and siblings. She just completed her grade 12 at Dartmouth High School in Dartmouth and will study Life Sciences at McMaster University in Ontario starting this fall. She loves children and wants to be a paediatrician, which is further corroboration of her gentle nature.

We congratulate Holland for winning the 3rd Angad Hundal Memorial Award with the hope that she will keep up the expectations of herself and continue to demonstrate the qualities, highest of a human.

We are very thankful to all of the applicants and their referees for their time and interest. Also hoping that application process gave you a chance to reflect and grow. We also welcome suggestions intended to improve the process for future.

School: Charles P. Allen High School, Bedford

2nd Angad Hundal Memorial Award (2017)

Angad Hundal Society is pleased to announce Lindsey Puddicombe of Charles P. Allen High School, Bedford, NS as winner of 2017 Angad Hundal Memorial Award.

Scholarship received 157 very competitive applications, which were assessed individually, and collectively on the parameters set. Though there is just one winner at the end, quality of applicants did not make it easy to choose.

We are very thankful to all of the applicants and their referees for their time and interest. We are also hoping that application process allowed you to explore your believes and was rewarding in some ways.

Lindsey Puddicombe lives in Waverley, NS with her parents and sister. She just completed her grade 12 at Charles P. Allen High School in Bedford and will study Bachelor of Science at Dalhousie University. Along with being good in academics, playing sports, volunteering and working jobs, she comes across as a deep thinker, polite, keen observer, kind and caring person.

We congratulate her for winning the 2nd Angad Hundal Memorial Award with the hope that she will keep up the expectations of herself keep demonstrating the qualities, highest of a human.

School: Halifax Christian Academy

1st Angad Hundal Memorial Award (2016)

Angad Hundal Memorial Award is pleased to announce Noah Shield of Halifax Christian Academy as the winner this year.

Scholarship received 116 very impressive applications in the first year which were assessed on the parameters set for the award. Award criteria is designed to stimulate insight and self growth in youth and we were pleasantly surprised upon receiveing high volume of very insightful and intellectually competent applications. We are grateful to all the students, who put extreme effort in expressing themselves through the questionnaire and essay, for sharing their stories and struggles. It is a priviledge to know all of you through your writings, you are all winners for believing in yourself, fighting the odds and choosing the right path.

Noah Shields lives in the town of Mineville in Nova Scotia with his parents and younger brother and was raised with strong morals. He fitted into the criteria effortlessly, as he also believes that improvement in the world starts with improving oneself! He is intelligent, kind, considerate, humble, grateful, proud, curious and funny.

After graduation from Halifax Christian Academy he have joined an aviation course in Prairie Bible School in Three Hills, Alberta to realize his dream of being a mission and commercial pilot. To be an awesome husband to his wife and an awesome dad to his kids is also on the list for future!

We congratulate him for winning the 1st Angad Hundal Memorial Award. May he be a great role model and spread the light!
